Glenn J. Hansen has been President and Chief Executive Officer of BPA Worldwide since August 1999.
Mr. Hansen began his career with BPA as an auditor in BPA’s headquarters (then based in New York City, USA) in January 1980. He was promoted to Management in 82 and held various positions in NY, Los Angeles and Chicago.
Mr. Hansen introduced numerous innovations within BPA and the media-auditing profession. In 2003, he restructured BPA’s operations to achieve time and cost efficiencies for media members by enabling them to submit circulation files for auditing on a computer-to-computer basis, simultaneously relocating BPA’s headquarters to Shelton, Connecticut USA to accommodate the new system.
He has also introduced industry-leading initiatives such as revised paid circulation reporting definitions/rules for consumer magazines, more timely audit releases, and online circulation reporting.
Mr. Hansen has been instrumental in expanding BPA’s media membership globally. Under his leadership, BPA pioneered independent media auditing in China beginning in 1996 (BPA remains the sole, non-governmental, independent media auditor in the country, with offices in Beijing and Hong Kong); and has expanded its presence in greater Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East (where it has recently opened a regional office in Dubai).
Today, BPA has the largest membership of any media-auditing organization in the world, spanning more than 25 countries.
Mr. Hansen and his team have worked extensively with governmental and media industry organizations in numerous regions to help establish and uphold world-class media-auditing standards.
Mr. Hansen is past Chairman of the International Committee of the American Business Media (ABM), serves on the Executive Board of the International Federation of Audit Bureaus of Circulation (IFABC) and is President of the Asia Pacific ABC regional group of the IFABC.
BPA’s range of auditing services has also been expanded under Mr. Hansen’s direction. The auditing bureau’s members and applicants now include more than 2,000 B-to-B publications and more than 500 consumer magazines, plus newspapers, events, Web sites, email newsletters, databases, wireless and other advertiser-supported media.
BPA’s membership also includes more than 2,600 advertisers and advertising agencies worldwide.
Mr. Hansen is a magna cum laude graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, with a bachelor's degree in planning and administration.
Prior to joining BPA, he was an officer with the U.S. Customs Service, working in drug interdiction and cargo theft squads in New York airports and shipyards. He began his professional career as an Assistant Director of Government Funding for Boy Scouts of America.
